Spray it on, grab a Swedish dishcloth and buff away the marks within seconds, leaving every steel surface gleaming. I’d given up hope that my bathroom sink could ever get rid of the pink residue in it. I’d tried vinegar and water, TikTok-famous products and so much scrubbing I scuffed the drain, all to no result. I spritzed, waited three minutes, and with hardly any scrubbing…all of the stains were gone.

Unfortunately, Puracy Everyday cleaner didn’t fare quite as well in the bathroom. It was suitable for light cleanup but wasn’t able to remove soap scum from our shower. Since it’s not a disinfectant, we didn’t use it on our toilets. Overall, the pleasant scent and versatile cleaning power make Puracy a great eco-friendly all-purpose cleaner. However, you may need something stronger to tackle tough bathroom messes. With the Neighborly Done Right Promise™, you know that if our house cleaning service doesn’t meet your standards, we’ll make it right.

We really liked The Container Store’s Silver Mesh Stackable Shoe Shelf, and we came close to making it a pick. This model is a great-looking freestanding rack with a sleek metallic mesh design. Each level is sold individually, but they stack together easily and ingeniously.

The shelf is the ideal decor for a small space while adding style too. Try an innovative shoe shelf with a bench instead of a mundane old shoe mat. It combines comfort with convenience and is ideal for storing shoes while also working as a functional bench and decor. They come in various styles but are excellent for storing shoes of all sizes. Stylish, fun, and offering somewhere to sit, a shoe shelf with a bench is a great way to spruce up a room.

City Business: How Bliffert Lumber Got Into Hardware » Urban Milwaukee

bliffert lumber & design

Established in the 1880s by Christian Meckelberg, North Side Lumber & Fuel Company was a staple of the near-northside community. Many homes built in the area of North Avenue, Holton Street, and Chambers Street were supplied with lumber, nails, windows, roofing material, and more from North Side Lumber. As well as stocking the bits and pieces of building materials, North Side Lumber did millwork, made flooring, and sold all manner of soft and hardwood from North American and some South American forests. They also provided the fuel (eastern anthracite coal) for homes and businesses of the area to cook, keep warm, and operate steam boiler-driven machinery. Now in our fifth generation of Bliffert family ownership, we are proud to be family-owned and operated, and we make sure that the personal service we’re known for shines through at each of our fourteen locations. Coal and lumber delivery to the distributors was by a rail spur that fed the business from the Milwaukee Road’s northbound City Line.

His lumber yard, which is mostly frequented by contractors, remodelers and a group of loyal customers, doesn’t get patronized by the younger people who typically head to box stores for their lumber needs, he says. Please reach out to one of our designers for more information on custom cabinets from Bliffert's Fillinger Millwork. As lumber yards began closing and going out of business in Milwaukee and the surrounding area, Bliffert decided the company needed to tap into the retail hardware market or risk following suit. “We weren’t gonna make it another hundred years without some change,” he says.

Chase Lumber has been serving South Central Wisconsin and the surrounding area since 1897 specializing in lumber, millwork, windows, cabinets, decking, kitchens and baths. Bliffert’s move into the hardware trade has won it recognition from the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. Bliffert Lumber was a first place winner in the category of building materials for this year’s Future 50 awards presented by the MMAC. The awards are given out each year to the 50 companies in the Milwaukee region that have shown rapid growth in employment and revenue over the previous three years. The Collectivo coffee shop, then called Alterra, was just down the street and a big draw for customers to the Chambers street location, he noted. Bliffert was soon watching numerous “Volvo station wagons” make U-Turns in front of his business on their way to grab some coffee, he notes.

In 2004, Bliffert Lumber was comprised of six yards under ownership by “different parts of the family,” Bliffert says. The same year, he worked to consolidate the yards under his single ownership, and purchased two more yards, one in Waukesha and the other in Sturtevant. Prior to re-structuring his business, he was employing 20 employees at two yards; now he has 140 employees at eight locations.

Ryan Ertel finishes top-five at Edgerton; McFarland boys golf ties for third

That includes four in Milwaukee and one each in Cudahy and Oak Creek, as the Bliffert website notes. The lumber company, which goes back to the 1870s, now has a popular hardware store in Riverwest. However, Bliffert still enjoys being a smaller, community-based company. It allows his company the freedom to do things the bigger companies can’t. The only thorn poking in Blifferts side is the lumberyard competition from the big box stores, which can sometimes feel like a nail being driven by a hammer. “The box stores just pound it in to your head,” he says, referring to ad campaigns like those by Menard’s.

The business was finally incorporated in 1904, making the name North Side Lumber & Fuel Company official. Bliffert came to work for the company, eventually marrying the daughter of the owner. Bliffert slowly took on more responsibility and managed the concern for several years under the North Side Lumber name. Shortly after World War I, the company name was changed to reflect Bliffert ownership, under which it still operates today.

His children have become the sixth generation of Blifferts to work for the business. Bliffert says his kids won’t be pressured to continue on in the family business if they choose to pursue other interests. Bliffert himself only began working at the company when he was in graduate school at UW-Milwaukee. He needed a summer job and decided to seek a job at the family’s lumberyard, then owned by his uncle and still president of the company Fred Bliffert, at the behest of his mother. “We call it fighting the retail relevance battle,” Bliffert says of his decision to open the company’s first retail hardware store in 2009. At Bliffert's, you’ll find an extensive inventory of lumber and building materials. Our experienced staff can help you determine what you’ll need for your job, whether it’s a home repair or a new construction project. Alaska Cruise: Award-Winning Alaskan Cruise

one way alaska cruise

You can only get so close to Alaska’s scenery and wildlife while visiting on a cruise, but using binoculars makes you feel so much more connected to the state’s magnificence. Alaska is home to delightful, fresh cuisine—the state is famous for its fish, king crab, and reindeer meat. If you’re a seafood lover, one of the worst mistakes you can make on an Alaska cruise is eating only on the ship to avoid paying for food in port.

Visitors arrrive in Anchorage either the day of the cruise or after completing an land tour into Alaska's Interior. At least one overnight hotel stay in Anchorage before your cruise is recommended to ensure the most rest and early arrival times to the ship. The 120 mile ride goes by quickly as visitors enjoy one of the most scenic drives into any departure port. Since Southbound Alaska Glacier cruises are one way trips, your cruise will not repeat its route by doing a U-turn back to the orginal departure port. Each day can provide a new opportunity to see glaciers, mountains, wildlife and scenery without repeating a segment of your journey.

RELATED PORTS

After traveling somewhere new, you want to bring something back with you to remember all of your fun adventures. The sheer size of Alaska lends itself to a wide variety of terrain and travel experiences. This diversity means you need to be prepared for a lot of change while traveling. Exploring the interior of Alaska will give you an entirely different perspective on this vast and rugged state. Take an Inside Passage cruise and gaze upward at the sky that is as blue as the lakes below.

Many of our itineraries spend a day cruising the beautiful Endicott Arm Fjord, the end of which is dominated by the mighty Dawes Glacier. The best time to visit Alaska is during its summer season, between May and September. We’ve curated the ultimate guide to visiting some of the most romantic destinations to vacation for couples.

Ships on this itinerary

The city is full of activities for both water lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The possibilities are endless when cruising to or from the City of Angels. Let your inner rock star shine as you explore the many wonders of Los Angeles, California.

Best Alaska cruise lines

The first thing you'll notice when comparing Alaska cruise itineraries is that some are one-way and others round-trip. You can choose a sailing that begins or ends in Alaska itself or one that departs and returns to another location, such as Seattle or Vancouver, British Columbia. All passengers regardless of their home country, citizenship or country of residency are responsible for obtaining the proper documentation for travel. This includes passports and visas for any country they may visit during their trip. Alaska is all about exploring the Great Outdoors with family and friends, learning about US History and enjoying wildlife.

Alaska Ports of Call

Without an embarkation or disembarkation port in Alaska, you won't have any pre- or post-cruise time to explore additional Alaskan destinations. Finally, you might encounter some rough seas when sailing in the open Pacific Ocean to reach Alaska. Our Alaska cruises are your ticket to adventure amidst the Great Land’s glaciers, wildlife and national parks. Voyage through the untamed beauty from the comfort of our world-class ships, exclusive rail service and Princess Wilderness Lodges near national parks.

Additionally, if you're hoping to visit Victoria, British Columbia, a popular port of call on Alaska cruises that's definitely worth a visit, you typically won't find it on a one-way itinerary. Because one-way sailings often start or end in Vancouver, they aren't required to include Victoria to satisfy the Passenger Vessel Services Act. When it comes to aspirational destinations, Alaska tops the list for many travelers. Because points of interest within the 49th state can be difficult to reach, Alaska cruises offer one of the best ways to see several places in one trip. Still, it can be confusing to choose the right itinerary, particularly if you're unfamiliar with the region or haven't cruised before.

Elias and Kenai Fjords, a world of natural wonders awaits on an Alaska cruise or cruisetour. Once the gateway to Alaska's Gold Rush, Skagway strikes a dramatic image nestled between the water's edge and mountains. Follow in the footsteps of miners with a ride on a scenic train along the famous White Pass route through coastal mountains. During your Alaska cruise, explore the Yukon's pristine wilderness, pan for gold with professionals or meet sled dog puppies in training. Still, you can get a variation on a luxury cruise experience on a voyage to Alaska from Seattle on Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Encore. On an Alaska cruise, take your pick of attractions in the port of Sitka.

To reach the fjords, you will pass through Revillagigedo Channel and proceed into the Behm Canal, a waterway where orcas, seals and porpoises are often spotted. Occasional stops will be made along the way to view an active bald eagle’s nest, and New Eddystone Rock, an immense volcanic spire that rises above the sea. While cruising through Rudyerd Bay, the naturalist will describe the natural history and point out seabirds that may be nesting in the soaring granite cliffs. You will also have the opportunity to delve into the Tlingit culture by listening to a tribal storyteller-artist or by watching a video presentation.

Before booking an Alaska cruise, be sure to consider the pros and cons of a one-way itinerary over a roundtrip sailing. If a balcony room is in your budget, there’s no harm in booking one for an Alaska cruise. If it’s a stretch for your bank account, book an interior room and allocate additional vacation savings towards add-ons like shore excursions instead. After five cruises to the 49th state, I’m familiar with the ins and outs of Alaska cruises. I know exactly what I should pack, which excursions I should book, and what to do in each cruise port.

Arriving a day early eases the stress of travel by ensuring I have enough wiggle room in the case of flight delays or cancellations. Roundtrip itineraries travel roundtrip from either Seattle, Washington or Vancouver, British Columbia, starting and ending in the same port. One-way cruises, on the contrary, travel in one direction—from Vancouver to Seward, Alaska and vice versa. The sailaway in Skagway, as an example, travels through the Inside Passage for several hours, passing massive glaciers and mountain ranges along the way. One of the unique aspects of cruising Alaska is sailing through the narrow inlets of the state’s Inside Passage.

What Should I Wear on a Cruise? A Guide to Cruise Line Dress Codes

cruise attire men's

Shorts, jeans, flip-flops, hats and T-shirts are prohibited throughout the ship during the evening. As with other lines, cruises in tropical waters tend to make dressing down more acceptable, as do voyages on the line's sailing vessels. The dress codes on Wind Star, Wind Surf, and Wind Spirit, are definitely more relaxed than the dress codes on motor yachts Star Pride, Star Legend, and Star Breeze. Dress-up nights are found on three- and four-night Disney cruises, with optional formal and semiformal nights on seven-night cruises. Dress-up means dress shirts, slacks and jackets for men and dresses or pantsuits for women. Semiformal entails suits or jackets for men and dresses or pantsuits for women; optional formal attire is not specified but is generally a more elegant version of semiformal wear.

Tailored Shorts

In addition, passengers who would like to participate in theme nights are encouraged (but not required) to dress according to a specific theme. Examples include the White Party, Gatsby Night or the '60s and '70s-themed Flower Glory Party. While of course you’re welcome to stay in your swimsuit almost all day long on a cruise, there are certain occasions when Celebrity Cruises dress code requests otherwise.

Disney Cruise Line dress code

A more formal dress code may be required for certain evening events, such as dinner in the main dining room or a themed party night. During the day, Viking's dress code calls for casual and comfortable attire, including shorts and jeans. Swimsuits, shorts, cover-ups and exercise attire should be reserved for poolside, in the fitness center and on the sports deck.

What are the best cruise clothing and accessories for men?

cruise attire men's

If you plan on going swimming during your cruise, bring along some swim trunks as well as sandals that you don’t mind getting wet. When it comes to accessories like hats and sunglasses, these items can add style to any outfit but make sure they’re practical and won’t blow away in windy conditions. If you’re headed somewhere like Norway or Alaska where hiking is one of the most popular activities, it’s worth packing a good pair of walking boots.

The dress code for Palo, an adults-only specialty restaurant, slacks (including jeans) and collared shirts or jackets for men and dresses, skirts or pantsuits for women are appropriate. We want our guests to feel comfortable, so Celebrity Cruises’ dress code for smart casual is fairly flexible, though there are some restrictions. T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps, and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurants at any time. In addition, shorts and flip-flops are not permitted during the evening hours. For formal nights, men will want to bring a collared, button-down shirt at the bare minimum. For something a little more snazzy, bring a jacket to wear over your shirt, with or without a tie.

This may include a dressy skirt or pants with a nice blouse for women and a jacket with dress pants for men. Don’t forget to pack your favorite swimsuits for fun-filled days by the pool or at the beach. Whether you prefer a one-piece or a bikini, bring enough options to enjoy the sun and water. Other theme nights include Carnival's Mexican Fiesta, Norwegian's White Hot Party and Royal Caribbean's '70s and '80s theme parties. If you feel confused or uninspired about what to pack for your next cruise, we're here to decipher the dress codes with photos of stylish examples of acceptable cruisewear. And yes, you’re on a menswear website, so our focus is on tackling that cruise packing list for men.

Jeans and Pants

T-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and sneakers are perfect options for exploring, lounging, and participating in onboard activities. Regardless of where you're cruising, make sure you pack comfortable clothes and shoes -- especially if you plan to do a lot of exploring on the ship. Pretty much anything casual goes for daywear onboard, but there are a few exceptions.

Wedding Suits 101: Choosing the Perfect Ensemble for Your Big Day

On these evenings, passengers can either wear elegant casual attire or opt for a more formal look, such as gowns, cocktail dresses, dark suits or tuxedos. On formal nights, men might wear suits, while women can don cocktail dresses, though elegant resort wear is also acceptable attire. Carnival's dress code for evening is typically cruise casual, but on one or two nights during the voyage cruise elegant eveningwear is suggested.

Do you have to dress up every night on a cruise?

Some cruise lines have a ‘smart' dress code between casual and formal. When sunlight graces the decks of your cruise ship, your attire should blend comfort and style suitable for many activities. From breakfast on the balcony to exploring exotic destinations, choosing the right day wear is essential. This section will guide you through the essentials for comfort and style, ensuring your cruise wardrobe is on point from dawn to dusk. Preparing for an upcoming cruise can be stressful, and you must consider what you will wear. Selecting the right clothes for a cruise is more than just filling up your suitcase—it’s about curating a wardrobe that sails smoothly from the sun-soaked deck to the main dining room.

Pack The North Face Men's Cyclone Windbreaker Jacket, which features a compact, lightweight and durable design. Need to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe before your cruise vacation? I’d recommend going for an extra-large scarf or sweater that still can be worn over your shoulders during the evening. It’s not too casual and looks dressy, while still keeping you warm. For example, if you stop in Naples Itay, you could explore the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Naples, and even Pompei which all involve different kinds of daytime outfits. I wore a casual top and shorts and everyone else wore something similar.

Packing a suitcase for your upcoming vacation onboard shouldn’t be difficult—in fact, it’s all part of the fun. Princess' casual daytime mindset means you can wear the same types of clothing on board as you would during a day ashore — activewear, beachwear and jeans or T-shirts are totally fine. The only exception is at dinner, when a smart casual vibe encourages travelers to avoid torn clothes or outfits that are suggestive or skimpy. Finally, check to see if your cruise line has any special theme nights planned. If so, you might want to pack an outfit for the white party or '80s night.

Bring more or less, depending on if you plan to do laundry and how often you’ll change clothes. In my household, my husband often struggles with what to pack when we cruise. We use a cruise packing list to keep organized and to make sure that nothing is forgotten at home. Yes men can wear shorts on a cruise, however some ships will not permit shorts in the main dining room at night. Therefore it is essential to have shorts and some longer length pants with you too. And it will depend on the length of cruise you are on as to how many formal nights you have.

Take some non-slip comfy flats for daytime on deck, easy exploring off ship, and casual evenings. We love Hotter shoes which are really lightweight and comfy, even on warm evenings. Protect your eyes and skin from the sun’s rays with sunglasses and sun hats. These accessories shield you from harmful UV rays and add a touch of style to your cruise outfits.

My Favorite Amenities on Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas Cruise Ship

Every corner of the Caribbean is yours to explore, with the cruise line voted Best Overall for 19 years running by Travel Weekly readers. Plenty of family-friendly cruise ships have waterslides, but few have six — or even one that requires a multi-person raft. The sailings out of Colon and Cartagena offer the chance to visit Southern Caribbean ports such as Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao that aren't on most Royal Caribbean itineraries in the Caribbean.

AMAZING SEASONAL CRUISE DEALS

There's also quite a bar scene on Quantum-class ships, with a lot of counter-style seating in bars that are a great place to find other solo travelers. We recommend one of the two large bars at the Music Hall, where you can make new friends while sipping musically inspired cocktails and listening to live bands. If the Music Hall is too noisy for chatting up other solos, head to the sometimes quieter Schooner Bar. Some Royal Caribbean ships — such as the line's Oasis-class vessels and recently launched Icon of the Seas — are built with far more family-focused activities than others. Some, such as the two-year-old Wonder of the Seas, have added features that appeal to luxury-loving travelers.

✔ Decide Your Itinerary & Book\n

Take in the largest Art Deco sculpture in the world, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Behold the largest waterfall system on the planet, Iguazú Falls near Buenos Aires. And explore Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic symbols of Peru’s ancient Inca heritage. Then sail up to the Yucatàn Peninsula to discover hidden coves and dramatic rock formations along Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas before exploring Ensenada.

I booked a mid-tier room — a step above interior staterooms, which have no window. It's a category below staterooms with a balcony, and two steps below a suite. It's the first show-at-sea I've seen with a waterfall and nine-foot-tall robotic arms, and so far, it's one of my favorites. While I would've preferred a quieter atmosphere (the DJ did not, in fact, play smooth jazz), the pool's views, day beds, and lack of screaming children were hard to beat. Rhapsody of the Seas is also the ship that Royal Caribbean deploys on some of its most destination-focused itineraries, the type that have particular appeal to retirees looking to see more of the world. Freedom of the Seas is the Royal Caribbean ship to pick when you're looking for a quick and affordable getaway — something that isn't a big commitment and won't break the bank.

On the new Icon Class ships, the Boardwalk area is replaced with a watery play zone for younger kids called Surfside.
